Can you practise speaking right daily? Using the right words that inspire you and your hearers. You can be the youth who talks confidently, politely and intelligently.

Here are 6 POWER WORDS to use, imbibe and cultivate. You know them, now exercise them daily.

Diligence: Care in paying proper attention to a task;  giving the degree of attention required in a situation. A focused determination to perform a duty or achieve an objective.

If you practice diligence, you are a hard and careful worker.

Excellence: The quality of being excellent   (superior in kind, exceptionally good, of the highest standard). A state of possessing good qualities in an eminent degree. An outstanding attribute about someone. E.g. John is excellent in service.

Fortitude: Refers to strength in the face of adversity or difficulty.
When someone has fortitude it means that they have emotional power or reserves and the ability to withstand adversity. People who have fortitude are described in an admiring way for their courage. This word comes from the Latin word fortitudo, meaning "strength."

Generosity: Generosity is a quality that's a lot like unselfishness — someone showing generosity is happy to give to or share time, money, food, or whatever with others.
Generosity is a quality — like honesty and patience — that we all probably wish we had more of. When you show generosity, you might give away things or money or put others before yourself.

Knowledge: To have knowledge means to know or be aware of things. Knowledge is understanding gained through learning or experience. Knowledge can mean deeper understanding of things. It means you put an effort to learn, and assimilate relevant information.

Perseverance: Perseverance is not giving up. It is persistence and tenacity, the effort required to do something and keep doing it till the end, even if it's hard. It is the quality of being determined to do or achieve something; firmness of purpose.

Perseverance originally comes from the Latin perseverantia and means to abide by something strictly. This makes sense, because if you're doing something in spite of all the difficulty, you're being strict on yourself.

We will add six more power words in another post.

HOW TO MINIMISE STRESS IN YOUR LIFE

Many young people daily live stressful lives. Mentally and physically, they are tasked everyday to the point of exhaustion. The period of one's youth should be lived buoyant and invigorated. Youth is synonymous to zeal and zest, so, it is abnormal for a youth to be constantly uninspired, unimaginative, spiritless, tired and dull. Teenagers are facing more stress in today's world than adults did. Pressures to excel academically and meet up with the increasing high marks for university or other college admissions. Students are worried about their social status, judging themselves by the excessive importance placed on social media popularity. They must have more 'friends and followers' than the next mate. There is the constant pressure of 'belonging' which a teen faces. Also, stressors could come from family members, romantic relationships, excessive competition in sports and other recreational activities. The list goes on.  One of our readers told me h...

TEENS AND DEPRESSION

By Kirsten OKENWA We know you; you like to frown your face and appear uninterested in all that happens at home or school. You lock yourself in your room, or, you hide in a corner all by yourself, just doing your own thing. Sometimes you are overwhelmed by feelings of sadness and a general apathy for life.  You are not alone. Teenagers the world over have emotional issues. Some are worse than the others. That is not to say that teens are an unhappy bunch; you just have your moments. We get concerned when these 'moments ' are affecting your relationships, joy, school work and zest for life. Teens should be vibrant and positive, full of energy and curiosity. But, when you are often sad and disillusioned over family problems, school challenges, or mistakes you made, it is time to seek help. You must not suffer alone for the world is on your side. You are special and precious to the society, with so much to give. Think about all the young people like you doing big things, or j...

RAGING HORMONES

I read this enlightening article at  http://www.newportacademy.com/teenage-hormones-and-sexuality/ . As you click on the above link, you will be inspired and informed about yourself, and why you act the way you do. An excerpt below: If you’re a teenager, you’re no stranger to the power of hormones. Starting as early as age 7 or 8, your body begins to produce the hormones that are responsible for the changes of puberty. Teenage hormones are the chemicals that cause the physical growth and sexual development that will carry you through your teens and into adulthood. As these substances take hold of your body, you’ll notice that your emotions, moods and sexual feelings are much stronger. You may also feel more impulsive and more inclined to take risks, like   experimenting with drugs or alcohol , driving without a license or having unsafe sex.  Peer pressure, low self-esteem and hormonal surges can lead you to take chances that could have a negative effect on yo...
