Have you ever wondered why some people show up late most times? They are late to rise in the mornings, late for classes, late for meetings or appointments, late, late, late. I have met such people. I even know some personally.
Psychologists have discussed several core reasons behind this habit. Some have proffered solutions. I think that the best place to start is to change the mindset. A scholar once said that the inside must be changed before success can be seen on the outside.
A habitual latecomer must:
1. Acknowledge the dilemma. You can't make progress by denying your shortcomings.
2. Decide for a transformation. You must make up your mind that TODAY marks the start of a NEW, PROMPT, ORGANIZED YOU.
3. Get together with an adult or counselor and discuss personal issues that might be affecting your state of mind. Remember that a disorganized or troubled teen will have issues with being time conscious and astute.
4. Change your habits. I once heard a teacher say that the best way to change a bad habit is to replace it with good ones. If you had made a practice of slothfulness, you must now decide to be quick and vibrant. Get school work ready the night before; set your clothes ahead of time.
5. Practise keeping a diary or to-do book. This little habit will save you a lot of time and energy. In it, you can list all activities, assignments or projects for the week. If you had an appointment, say with your drama coach, mark it in this diary or phone reminder.
There are some wonderful quotes on time management that I like to recite:
